Beginning Our Summer Home Schooling Adventure

On Thursday Hunter sadly had his last day of preschool. In an attempt to keep him from forgetting everything he learned this year and in preparation for kindergarten this august we are going to spend an hour or so every day doing home schooling projects. I had a few workbooks laying around so we will use those as well as doing some fun creative stuff. We received a lot of fun little books from his school with flash cards and ideas for the summer so we will definitely put them to use. Hunter really lacks patience and doesn’t like to sit still so I know its going to be a challenge and I’m going to have to come up with some fun ideas that gets him up and moving as well and keeps him interested. I’ve also found some really fun learning resources on pinterest and im really looking forward to sharing them with you!
Along with doing some home schooling Hunter will also be going to the YMCA for summer camps which will be A LOT of fun for him! We’ll keep you updated on how things are going!

What are your plans for the summer?

I hate the store bought cards though as they are so plain and generic and well, boring! So I’ve been on the lookout for some cute DIY ideas and as always I’ve found a lot of great ones on Pinterest that i had to share!

Popsickle Stick Job Jar

The older my son gets the more I want him to be involved in the day to day things around the house. Not because I need the help but because I know that it teaches him responsibility. I spent a lot of time searching for a “chore” chart that would suit our needs but still be fun. I don’t really want my son to think of the things that he does as being chores but more of helping mommy. I want him to learn that he needs to take care of his things and that its his “job” and not Mommy’s. So we created a Popsicle stick job jar. I used scrapbook paper to cover the Popsicle’s and then wrote a job on each one. Each day after school, before bed or once hes done playing I’ll have him pick one out and that will be his job for the day. Below is a list of some of the “jobs” I’ve chosen for him.

Jobs
Pick up dirty clothes.
Put away shoes.
Vacuum your room.
Help mommy make your bed.
Wipe down kitchen table.
Vacuum hallway.
Help mommy set the table.
Help wash dishes.
Help fold laundry.
Help mop floors.
Help with dinner.
Vacuum living room.
If you have any to add to the list feel free to leave a comment!
